Twinning Visit – Easter weekend 2009
This year, it was Linlithgow’s turn to act as hosts to visitors from various twin towns: Guyancourt in France, Pegnitz in Germany and Slany in the Czech Republic.
The Folk Festival Association and friends were, as usual, involved in both hosting visitors, and providing musical contributions for the weekend. We had a night off to enjoy the dancing at the ceilidh after the Saturday night dinner. On the Sunday afternoon there was a very international session in the Black Bitch lounge bar, and on the Sunday evening, a concert was staged in the new Donaldson’s College. Also participating in the concert were the Linlithgow Reed Band and the Linlithgow Rugby Club Choir, and our local trio, Tryst.
Special mention must be made of the wonderful photographs taken by Martine Stead of “Linlithgow Loch every day of the Year”, which were used as the backdrop to the playing of “Linlithgow Loch” by its composer, Bob Proudfoot, and Neil Macdonald.
Great friendships have developed through the twinning, and some LFFA members are travelling to Lorient Festival in August to share some more music with their French friends.
Champions League! Cup successes! May 09
No, not about football (unless you include Malinky who were kicking a ball around while the photo was being taken!)
Congratulations to Liz Wilson and Paul Streater of LFFA, who, between them lifted 3 pieces of silverware in the recent Girvan Festival competitions.
Liz won the Traditional Singing cup for her rendition of “Time Wears Awa” as well as the Storytelling cup with her tale of the Sanday silkies.
Paul won the Songwriting cup with a grim but poignantly topical song “Line in the Sand” about the Middle East conflict
