Linlithgow Oxfam Folk Night – Saturday 1st November 2014

Linlithgow Oxfam Group's Folk Night, now a high point in Linlithgow's folk music calendar, is back again, as part of Celebrate Linlithgow.

On Saturday 1st  November, Linlithgow Academy Theatre will play host to another selection of Scotland’s best performers.

Mick West and Frank McLaughlin are two of our country's most renowned performers. Mick has a catalogue of highly acclaimed recordings to his name, and a huge repertoire. With one of Scotland’s most distinctive voices, his rich, warm and expressive singing is complimented on guitar by the highly creative skills of Frank McLaughlin. The duo have years of shared enthusiasm for their music, guaranteeing a superb performance.

Gill Bowman, based in Edinburgh, was warmly  received when she last appeared in Linlithgow a number of years ago. She is a highly entertaining performer with a strong commitment both to her native music and to her own diverse and perceptive songs.  She is widely regarded as one of Scotland's finest interpreters of Scottish traditional song, particularly the songs of Robert Burns.

Ewan McVicar has lived in many countries, and this is reflected in his amazing range of songs and stories.  Now based in Linlithgow, he still works in schools across Scotland, ensuring that generations of school children appreciate the wealth of songs available to them, helping them understand their social and cultural history, and encouraging them to write and record their own songs.

As usual, the evening will be launched by Sangschule, West Lothian’s own traditional song group.

Very definitely an evening not to be missed!
