Spring Fundraising Concert - Saturday 25th April 2009
This concert, featuring "Scotland's finest folk song quintet" Malinky, and our local trio, Tryst, more than lived up to expectations. Malinky had a wide variety of new material from their latest CD "Flower and Iron", and Tryst made some touching local references, in particular, with Ian Walker's song "Companions" which was written for Nora Devine who ran the former Linlithgow Folk Club for many years. CD sales were like hot cakes for both groups!
Matt McGinn Tribute - "Keep Matt McGinn Singing" 6 March 2009
This year's "Matt night" was, as usual, a sell-out, with a highly appreciative audience joining in with the choruses. Entertainment was provided by LFFA members, Sangschule, Tryst, the Linties, Duncan McCrone, Lynne Mulvenna, Cy Jack, the Jim McKenna band, and the "Absolute McGinners" backing band, which seems to get bigger each year! Imaginative costume, props and staging added to the general fun and mayhem.

Guyancourt Visit
A small contingent of LFFA members took part in the biennial visit to Guyancourt: the theme of the musical entertainment was "Drink and mair drink": the French hosts put on a memorable show in song and dance about the grape harvest in Burgundy (we even consumed some!), while the LFFA party sang about whisky and wine and led a few Scottish dances. Linlithgow is a Royal Burgh located in the central lowlands of Scotland - about 20 miles from Edinburgh and under an hour from Glasgow by train or car.
It is the birthplace of Mary Queen of Scots and the preserved ruins of the Royal Palace can be visited in a picturesque setting next to Linlithgow Loch.
The town has many other attractions and facilities for visitors, including a vibrant music culture.
The Linlithgow Folk Festival Association (LFFA) has been active in the town for 10 years and attracts many big names in the music industry throughout the year - especially during the main Folk Festival event, held annually - 11th to 14th September 2008.
The “Friendly Folk in Linlithgow" aim is:
“To develop traditional and contemporary music throughout West Lothian”
