This widely acclaimed Scottish band are our Saturday concert headline act for this year. The band has been in existence since the early 1990s, and has been through a number of different line-ups over the years.

They have twice won the Folk Band of the Year category in the Scottish Trad Music Awards, and their latest CD "Four on the Floor" won the "best Celtic CD" award.

The current band includes Jonny Hardie on fiddle, mandolin, guitar and vocals, Aaron Jones on bouzouki, guitar, electric bass and vocals, Fraser Stone on percussion and drums, and Ali Hutton on pipes, whistles and guitar. They will be touring in the western USA in June before coming to Linlithgow.

Playing support are Lucy Pringle and Chris Wright

Lucy Pringle and Chris Wright began singing together at the start of 2008, brought together by a common love of traditional and contemporary Scottish songs.

Lucy is a former member of the Scots singing quartet The Linties, with whom she quickly became a familiar voice at singing festivals throughout Scotland. She was the winner of the Muchty women’s singing competition in 2002, and more recently performed in a trio with guitarist Robin Galloway and fiddler Denise Cant.

Chris has performed with a number of leading singers and musicians on the Scottish folk scene.  His most recent projects include arranging and accompanying the songs on Mark Dunlop’s celebrated debut album ‘Islands on the Moon’.  Chris also works for the landmark Kist o' Riches (Tobar an Dualchais) project, cataloguing the Scots song archive at the School of Scottish Studies in Edinburgh.

With an emphasis on simple and expressive arrangements, Lucy and Chris’ songs have already earned them a prestigious Danny Kyle Award at Celtic Connections 2009, and the opportunity to support the McCalmans in their farewell tour.

Their debut album, which will be produced by Steve Byrne, is due out in Autumn 2010.

Pedal for Scotland - Sunday 12th September

And, as for the last few years, thousands of cyclists will be “Pedalling for Scotland” through the town!

Free music at the Lowport from 10am - 2pm featuring “The Lothian Airs” and “Uncle Red”.

Taking place on Sunday 12th September, Scotland’s biggest bike ride returns for 2010 with an additional two new rides.  The annual Glasgow to Edinburgh bike ride attracted a record 7000 riders last year, and Cycling Scotland are hoping to attract even more this year.

• The classic freshnlo Pedal for Scotland Challenge Ride is a 51 mile ride between Glasgow and Edinburgh. The event has a capacity of 9000 riders this year, so book early to avoid disappointment.

The event will again support charity partner Maggie’s Cancer Caring Centres, and raised over £225,000 in 2009.

Other options for shorter or longer rides are on their website, where you can also register: www.pedalforscotland.org.
